Aaron's Door

So, Last Fall I made Aaron a Loft Bed. In our little Cape Cod, he got stuck pretty close to the ceiling. As he's grown this past year, we were forced to move his bed to the only spot in the room where he could sit up a little in his bed. Which of course meant, his door had to come off. I didn't mind, it was an ugly ass door, anyway. Covered with cheap 70's paneling, who knew what lay beneath?

Well First of all were about 3 layes of paint, the last being some sort of Mustard Yellow... aack. But below that, I discovered a fine paneled door made from 200+ year old Fir. What a lovely old door this turned out to be. Even the cheap pine plywood panels varnished up, real nice.

Shown here with six coats of Helmsman Gloss Spar Varnish.
