Essa Members Dave Stapleford, Bruce Franz, John Zimmerman and Ken Kundell trekked to New Jersey this weekend for the Mariner Nationals.
Here are Ken Kundell's report and images...
Dave and Bruce will be battling it out for bragging rights . There was quite a bit of action this morning as 28 boats were dropped into the water with three lifts. The only issue I saw was a boat that had the center board swing down into the trailer as the boat was lifted. That was quickly lowered and fixed. Dave and Bruce launched without incident. Here are a few pictures showing the boats getting ready do go out to the course after the skippers meeting.
The cleat in the rear of the boat that was one of the 3 lift points pulled out. It dropped and the rigging got hungup in the lift snapping the mast. I heard a loud "tong" as the bridal gave way followed by as large pop. The Mariner masts have Styrofoam in them as filler. You could see a cloud of white confetti as the mast snapped spewing the foam out everywhere. The good news is that no one was injured and the hull is ok.
