Collapsible Saw Horses
I built these collapsible sawhorses because our old "shop", was only barely a one car garage... Put it this way, my Miata went in fine, but the old Toronado I had wouldn't have even fit through the door, much less been able to get it closed after the car was in. So, I came up with this little design which has worked very well for several years, now. When not in use, they hang on the wall, out of the way.
The crossbars are about 10" longer and legs about 3" taller than most sawhorses. Were I to do it over, I'd add another 3" to the height. One caution, if you build some like these, be sure to Set the 1x4 pieces for a very tight clearance with the 2x4 legs. I thought I had them fairly tight, but the legs were a mite wobbly from day one. In the intervening years, they have gotten slightly worse, but not too bad.
The little string loop goes through a hole in the leg and is tied with a stopper not. With a bowline loop on the other end, it hooks on the drywall screw and allows one to pick up the horse and move it without it falling apart...
